10. Environment: Spaces for productivity and well-being.

The spaces we occupy – whether physical or virtual – shape how we think, feel and act.  Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve become more aware of how our surroundings shape our work experience, with hybrid models and increased digital interactions becoming the norm.  Designing environments that align with how we work best is essential for maintaining, energy, focus and balance.

Awareness:

  • Reflect on where and how you work most effectively. One London agency uses “heads down” for focused independent work done best at home, “heads up” for hybrid routine meetings, and “heads together” for face to face collaborative problem solving, to guide their interactions.  What modes guide yours?
  • How does your current workspace – whether at home, the office, or a co-working space – affect your focus, productivity, and well-being?
  • How important is location to your work-life balance? Consider how travel and commuting influence your routine and mental state.
  • How do you stay connected with your community, whether through colleagues, clients, or social groups

Agency:

  • What small changes can you make to your workspace to better support your productivity and well-being? Could you create zones for different types of work (focus, collaboration, relaxation) to help maintain energy and engagement?
  • Consider experimenting with your work environment – change locations, introduce plants and biophilic design, or try new desk and room layouts to see what boosts your focus and creativity.
