6. Physical Health: The foundation for career resilience

Published On: 7 October 2024Categories: Career, Resilience

Our physical health is the bedrock of our ability to excel at work and in life.   It fuels our energy, endurance, and resilience, helping us avoid injury and illness.  Like an athlete, we must be intentional about our diet, exercise, rest, and recovery – not just for today, but for our future.  Life isn’t one long marathon: it’s a series of sprints.

Awareness:

  • What do you notice about your physical health? Have you seen changes since you left education?  Do your clothes fit differently?  Do you get out of breath after simple activities like playing with children or running to catch the bus?  Do you often fall asleep during a movie?  How many steps do you take each day?
  • How often do you engage in physical activities like walking, sports or gym sessions?
  • How much sleep do you have each night? Is it restorative?

Agency:

  • What small, sustainable change could you introduce into your daily routine to enhance your physical well-being?
  • How do you turn this into a lasting habit that supports your long-term career and life goals?
